Man knows several forms of self-control. This self-control is a kind of life-tactic wherein one behaves according to existing forms of culture. We keep silent even though our blood drives us to speak; we check our temper even though there is an inner storm; we pretend to be amiable, obliging, correct, sweet and full of love for humanity. Nevertheless, it is a culture based upon lies, illusion and fear which leaves humanity living on a volcano.
Periodically there is an outburst of this volcano. Self-discipline is undermined by our I-passion and by our self-maintenance. Human interests clash and people will find a method to serve and realize their own interests under the pretence of self-control, friendliness, culture, religion and holy language. The pretext of self-control of one person attacks the self-control of another.
There is but one way to escape the suffering of humanity. By going the path of
Sangha, the path of sanctification, of universal healing. First we must be in possession of the key to the path which in holy writ is called
faith. Faith includes the possession, the experience and the positive reaction to the primordial monad in the heart. This leads to
virtue in which a new
blood-structure is formed and gives us the capacity to follow the path within. On this blood basis the person comes to
knowledge, a change in the
hormonal function as a result of first-hand contact with the light of the Gnosis. What is next? Supplementing your knowledge with
self-control. Not the natural, old self-control, but following the voice of the light which has been given to you. You need only turn away from the old voice and impulses of this nature and direct yourself to the New One within you; that is self-control.
